The de Dietrich family plays an important part in the history of Alsace : during the thirty years war, the village was burnt down. It is bought in 1764 by Jean de Dietrich. This ingenious man developped a large industry by installing ironworks in Jaegenthal not far from Niederbronn.
One of his descendant, Philippe-Frédéric de Dietrich was mayor of Strasbourg in 1790 and it is in his home in Strasbourg that Rouget de l'Isle composed the french national anthem : "La Marseillaise". |
